To answer these questions I will need to back up a bit to give you a little more context. In August 2019 I quit my job and sold my condo in Saint Petersburg, Florida with the intent to take the next year to travel internationally while I felt healthy enough to do so. I knew that I would be able to work on some things along the way that would help me when I eventually had to reenter the workplace and settle back down. From early September 2019 till early March 2020, I was able to do just that. I traveled around Asia visiting 8 countries during that time, stopping at a few more than once. I was only a few days from leaving again, this time to Peru in South America, when their borders were shut down and my international travel ended. For the next couple months I lived with my parents as I tried to figure out if things would get back under control and I could continue to travel abroad or if I would need to do something else. As time passed, I realized that I could basically continue doing what I had been, but by traveling around my own home country. The way to do this safely? Buy a RV or Camper Van and set off. Well, this concept quickly turned into visiting some RV dealerships and after visiting a few one day things quickly turned into, if you are going to do this you need to find one that works for you and buy it ASAP as they are selling out fast. So in the span of a week and a half I went from concept to purchase of an RV.
Now that we are all caught up, my full time RV adventures began with my leaving my parent house in Palm Harbor, Florida and heading north, with my first stop visiting my best friend in Old Town, Florida. From there I drove up into Georgia, then Tennessee, stopping to visit some old friends before continuing westward towards Nevada. I drove through Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, finally reaching Nevada with plans to meet up with another long time friend and old roommate. Unfortunately those plans fell through, but I was quickly able to piece together another plan to cover the days I was going to spend with them and ended up driving down near Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks before looping back up to Reno, Nevada to spend time with two friends I made on another international trip earlier in 2019 that I will blog about at a later date.
I spent two weeks in Reno both spending time with my friends and also having the 1st stage of an RV upgrade completed on my RV. More on this in another upcoming blog as well! Once the work was completed I then made my way back into Northern California, through Oregon and into Washington State. Here I spent another two weeks before my plans were changed yet again, this time due to the forest fires and unhealthy smoke levels and I found myself heading back east through Idaho and into Montana, then back down through Idaho back into Nevada. I am now back in Reno where I am waiting for my RV upgrades to be finished allowing me to no longer worry about supplying power to my RV and giving me the ability to last off grid (electricity wise) indefinitely.
To recap, within my first three months of travel, I have driven through 15 States, traveled completely across the US from Florida to Washington State and covered over 6,000 miles. To hear more about the adventures I had along the way to this point as well as where I go from here. Stay tuned for the next blog post.
Take care and remember to Travel Tall and Small
